I started this business when I had a 1 and 3 year old. I was deep in the thick of motherhood, the kind where you can’t remember the last time you had five minutes to yourself and finishing a hot drink is impossible. It was then, a good friend of mine who works in education, introduced me to tuff trays, and something just clicked. But when I went looking for the bits to make them work at home, there was nothing out there. No suitable stands, no thoughtful accessories, just a plain black tray and not much else.

That’s where Busy Little Fingers began.

I couldn’t believe the hours of entertainment those trays brought my kids.

I watched their fine motor skills develop, their sensory processing grow, their creativity take off in ways I hadn’t expected. Messy play opened their little minds and, just as importantly, it regulated their bodies. On the hard days, it was a lifesaver for me and got me through those difficult days. Once I’d felt that, I knew I had to share it with other parents who were in the same season I was.

So we grew, and then our family grew too, when we welcomed my son. Suddenly I had three under four. But as my kids got older, our love for tuff trays only got stronger. That’s exactly why we’ve expanded our range with inserts, opening up even more ways to play for children of every age and stage.

None of this has happened in isolation. So many educators have walked alongside us, sharing their ideas, their expertise and their encouragement, and helping shape the products we make. They’ve reminded us again and again that tuff trays aren’t only about play. They’re about play-led learning, the kind where children explore, experiment and make sense of their world without even realising they’re learning at all.
